I could speak for hours on development and design of burners & boilers (and I do love to hear myself talk - ask my wife), but I hate to type. So I will only touch on a couple of points.

Sadly, the development of heating Boilers in the United States has been stagnant. The most popular "domestic" Boiler Design (Vertical flue/with pins) is over 40 years old. Because we have the lowest fuel prices in the world, research and development has focused on profit making, instead of efficiency & protection of the environment. We have found the Europeans are literally about 20 years ahead of us in  Boiler design.

The Japanese have also developed some wonderful products but they seem to focus more on "Space Heaters" (Monitor, Rinnai) than central heat systems.

Currently in this country we find ourselves debating high mass vs. low mass. I favor high mass for fixed firing rate units. High mass allows for long fire cycles (less wear and tear on equipment) and low temperature operation (energy savings). For low mass boilers to function efficiently, flame modulation & variable flow rate through the units are a must (ask me about Vitodens).

The U.S. is currently being flooded with (fixed firing rate) low mass boilers. Beware! or better yet, Be Aware! Check out who the manufacturer is & who the Importer is. Find out why your contractor wants to sell you that product. Every month contractors are enticed to sell different boilers, sell boiler x this month you might get free boots. Next month sell boiler y and you get free NASCAR tickets.

I must admit, I got the tickets, I got the jackets, but I also got the headaches. I learned the hard way. But because I also take responsibility for  products I sell, I always make it right with my customers. I  had previously endorsed products that I thought had strong U.S. ties only to find that they really had nothing more than a slick sales rep and a rented office space.

Now I can confidently say -

We sell the best boilers in the world. Buderus and Viessmann. These manufacturers are two of the largest in the world and have both made major investments in new facilities in the U.S. They are here for the long run.
