Having
your oil heating system cleaned & adjusted is important to
assure efficient & safe operation. It should be done every
year. Throughout the year soot builds up on heat exchange
surfaces and reduces efficiency (up to 25%). Having your boiler
or furnace thoroughly brushed and vacuumed is very important. The
oil filter and pump strainer are also cleaned and replaced during
the annual maintenance. The nozzle assembly is also cleaned and
the nozzle replaced. Many units have power venters which require
extra time to properly service. While the technician is there,
many other components are examined, checked, and tested for
safety.
A
combustion efficiency test is then performed to make sure the
unit is burning properly. A consumer should not be lulled into
complacency if their old unit gives a high efficiency reading.
This test is only part of the total efficiency, even the
combustion test can be skewed if the smoke reading is not @ zero
or a trace.
Some parts
on the equipment will need to be replaced every few years.
Combustion chambers and stove pipe deteriorate with time.
Powerventers are also a part that will need replacement. Because
safety codes change almost every year we make it a point to
inform our customers of code deficiencies.
A great
deal of responsibility rests on your service technician. When we
leave your home we have left a system that establishes a flame
and burns a combustible fuel with the potential to cause major
property damage, or death. I sure dont want the cheapest
tech I can get.
A proper
tune-up will take about 2 hours; a fast job is not a good job.
The amount of oil you burn for the rest of the year depends on
how well this job is performed. Not to mention your families
personal safety.
